Descarado de Luz (Prestgio II-Multi National Champion x Descarada VI) is living in the Seattle area and owned by Susan Eldridge. About him she says: Descarado AKA Sami is doing great-he is a joy to work with and is easy to ride and train. He is now 16.3 as a four year old. Sami is outgoing, smart, friendly and gorgeous. He has personality plus, and has
no trouble letting me know his opinions about things. He is a social creature and likes being around people and other horses. He is smart, learns quickly, and is a joy under saddle. He is forward, without being silly. I look forward to getting him out on some trails when the good weather returns.
So far I have taken it slowly with him, lots of turnout time and just the basics under saddle. We will continue to concentrate on dressage as his training progresses. I have ridden, trained horses from babies to Prix St George. Sami is my first Andalusian, I have had Appaloosas, a Hanoverian cross, and a Danish warmblood. I did ride and show a Lusitano belonging to a friend, and he was the most fun - High energy, but using it to work with the rider, not against. Sami is slightly more laid back, I am looking forward to the future with him.
Alexa Volwiler and Novalina De Luz
I purchased Novalina, “Nova,” from Cathy in November 2006. What a difference this horse has made in my life!
I grew up riding and showing Appaloosas. I would never have expected I would someday own an Andalusian, but I am so glad that I do! I was first introduced to the breed several years ago when a friend asked me to help train her half Andalusian/half Arabian. Having just sold my Appaloosa, I needed a horse to ride, so I accepted. I ended up taking the horse to shows and was fascinated by the talent and beauty of the breed. When I heard that Cathy had a three-year-old filly for sale, I decided to take a look. I was ready for another horse and a new project.
Cathy’s place was well kept and I could tell that her horses were loved. I had had plenty of experience with mistreated horses in my life and knew the problems that a poor foundation can create for the rest of a horse’s life. It was very comforting to me to know that I would buy a horse that had had a good upbringing and was not afraid of people. Nova is such a sweet horse with a lot of personality. I have never owned a horse before Nova that liked to be around people. What a nice change!
I brought Nova home and was able to begin ground work right away. She learned surprisingly quickly so I decided to get on her back. What a dream she was to ride! I have never been on a horse that is so smooth. Nova was very accepting of her training and seemed to enjoy the attention and the rides. She progressed very quickly as she learned to trust me and become confident with her training. As the first young horse that I have trained, Nova’s calm personality and willingness to learn has given me a great deal of confidence.
I took Nova to her first Andalusian show last June 2007 and decided to take her to the Canadian Nationals in July. The first show was a very new experience for her and she was understandably nervous; however, by the second show, Nova had gained considerable confidence and settled down a lot. I rode her in several classes and she did very well. After a full year and a half of training, I am looking forward to this year’s show season because I know she is very competitive. I plan to do all-around with her as well as some dressage.
Nova is very good natured and a dream to ride. While I enjoy showing, mainly I just wanted a horse that I can could have fun with and enjoy being around. Nova filled and exceeded that desire. I am very thankful to have her in my life.
Andrea Fletcher and El Tesoro de Luz
Dez is a mare I have admired for many years. She is the first andalusian I ever saw in person and her beauty, confidence and the way she moved was like no other horse I had seen before. She has had many outstanding colts and fillies over the years so when I had the opportunity to own my first andalusian I knew I wanted one of hers.
I first saw El Tesoro de Luz or "Tez" when he was only minutes old and it was love at first sight. He is 18 months old now and everything I ever wanted in a horse. He is not only beautiful, but confident and a lovely mover with a great temperament to boot. He loves people and I have a bond with him that I have not had with any other horse that I have owned. I am so grateful to Cathy for allowing me the opportunity to bring this special horse home, as he is truly a part of our family.
